KCB hosted its first On the Table community conversation

On February 8th, 2023, Keep Carroll Beautiful welcomed Carroll County community members to our Bradley Street office to participate in a conversation about recycling.

On the Table was initiated by the Community Foundation of West Georgia as a way to encourage a friendly exchange of ideas on issues important to the community. For KCB, those issues include access to recycling, recycling education, and ways in which we can improve our outreach.

On the Table 2023 Recap:

KCB staff and board welcomed representatives of the Carroll County Solid Waste Department, Carrollton Civic Woman’s Club, and Carrollton businesses. Together, we discussed educating the public on their recycling options, sharing the information in an easy-to-digest way, and reaching out to the younger audience. We produced a FIVE-POINT education outreach plan to focus on:

  1. Convenience Centers: where are they located; what materials are collected in each CC.
  2. What is accepted for recycling in Carroll County? Traditional recycling vs hard-to-recycle materials. Drop-off locations and events. How to read recycling symbols and decide what can be recycled locally.
  3. Creating a “How do I recycle” database – this could be a joint program for KCB and the Carrollton Civic Woman’s Club!
  4. The WHY – (over)use of petroleum, markets for recycled material, impact on the environment – globally and locally, recycling facts in GA and Carroll Co.
  5. Composting! Alternative to sending compostable material to landfills.

KCB will use these ideas to further our recycling education outreach and enhance our going programming for 2023 and beyond.
