CEMC Foundation

Impact Grant 2020

Keep Carroll Beautiful and our Household Recycling Program was among the proud recipients of the Carroll EMC Foundation 2020 Impact Grants. The much-needed funding helped us send thousands of pounds of collected household hazardous materials to the proper recycling facilities. We were able to ship off 95% of the materials collected between 2018 and 2020, with many coming in in the summer of 2020. The remaining materials will be disposed of during the Household Hazardous Waste amnesty event on May 15th, 2021.

The secondary goal was to reorganize the storage for small electronics and other recyclables collected in-office. With the addition of new shelving and work tables, we are able to save $1,200 a year in storage rental and we are able to collect new items inside of the building.

KCB shipped off to be recycled:

  • Four 55 gallon drums full of crushed fluorescent bulbs (5,400 4-foot bulbs equivalent);
  • 383 pounds of 8-foot fluorescent bulbs (whole);
  • 318 pounds of Alkaline batteries;
  • 32 pounds of Lead Acid batteries;
  • 180 pounds of Nickel-Cadmium batteries;
  • Eight 5-gallon buskets of tool batteries;
  • Five 5-gallon buckets of Lithium-Ion batteries;
  • Two boxes of HID bulbs (estimated 200 4″-bulbs each);
  • Two boxes of CFL bulbs (400 curly bulbs each);
  • 464 gallons of Latex and Oil paint.

The materials in the items recycled by KCB with the CEMC Impact Grant funds are considered harmful to local wildlife and the human population, especially mercury, nickel, lead, cadmium, and lithium.

KCB will continue to collect batteries through the year-round drop-off program, and bulbs – during the Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Event held annually.

What happens when you #RoundUp your Carroll EMC power bill? Awesome things happen! Thanks to the 2019 and 2020 Impact…
