Carrollton, GA – More than 30 community members attended the 9th Annual Keep Carroll Beautiful Environmental Excellence Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, December 8 at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.  The food was generously provided by Simply Catering and KCB Board Member, Duane Sohl. The annual program honors individuals and organizations working to improve Carroll County’s environment.

“Today’s program celebrates and recognizes 10 years of collaboration by community members to keep Carroll County’s environment beautiful,” said Jacqueline Dost, Executive Director of Keep Carroll Beautiful.

The Environmental Excellence Awards recognizes businesses, non-profit organizations, and community volunteers in Carroll County that provide leadership in environmental protection and practice environmentally sound behavior in the areas of water quality protection, waste reduction, recycling, and pollution. The categories include: individual, organization or group, small business, and large business.

About Keep Carroll Beautiful (KCB):Created in 2005 by the Environmental Projects committee of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Keep Carroll Beautiful (KCB) became the certified affiliate of Keep America Beautiful serving all of Carroll County. In 2014, Keep Carroll Beautiful was awarded the first place honor for the Great American Cleanup activation from Keep America Beautiful. In 2013 and 2014, the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation bestowed first place honors upon Keep Carroll Beautiful for Waste Reduction and Recycling in the state of Georgia. In addition to this, Keep Carroll Beautiful Executive Director, Jacqueline Dost was honored with the Executive Director of the year award by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation in 2013.  KCB coordinates a number of environmental efforts including the Great American Cleanup™ and E-recycling collections twice annually as well as managing more than 20 community garden sites in the west Georgia area. Organization Award – This award recognizes an organization that has had extraordinary dedication and commitment of time and resources to make Carroll County a cleaner and better community for everyone.

African-American Male Initiative

University of West Georgia

The African-American Male Initiative Program is dedicated to the success of African-American male students.  The primary goal of the AAMI Program is to increase retention, progression, and graduation (RPG) rates of African-American male students attending the University of West Georgia. This group regularly volunteers at Keep Carroll Beautiful events.

Small Business Award – This award recognizes a small business that strives to be a good environmental steward of our community.

SCRAP Bin

Carrollton, GA

Founded 5 years ago, SCRAP Bin is the only creative re-use center in the state of Georgia that has a permanent physical location. This business was incubated by Keep Carroll Beautiful, who served as its fiscal agent for the first 2 years that SCRAP Bin was in business. In addition to this, the two organizations also shared office space together until the early part of 2012.

Large Business AwardThis award recognizes a large business that strives to be a good environmental steward of our community.

Flowers Baking Company

Villa Rica, Georgia

The Flowers Baking Company “Green Team” has been a dedicated group of the KCB Adopt-A-Road program for several years now. In addition to regular roadside litter clean ups, the Green Team also works to ensure that good environmental stewardship practices are in place within the company.

Individual AwardThis award recognizes dedication by one or more individuals to improve the beauty and cleanliness of our community. 

Troy & Pam Walker

This husband and wife duo has been actively volunteering with Keep Carroll Beautiful since they moved to the west Georgia area almost 5 years ago. In addition to their presence at most KCB events, Troy and Pam have been loyal financial supporters of the organization. They have also given generously of their time by constructing dozens of raised beds for community gardens and painting the office of Keep Carroll Beautiful. Pam often volunteers in the office at Keep Carroll Beautiful and Troy served as Board Chair from 2013 until October 2015 when he was transferred to the Atlanta area with his employer, Walmart.com.
